Surgery

Many surgical procedures today have become less invasive and state-of-the-art equipment has reduced hospital stays to hours instead of days. McPherson Hospital's Ambulatory Surgery Center facilitates outpatient care. The ambulatory center increases continuity of care and prevents unnecessary delays for outpatients by providing dedicated staff to assist with preoperative and postoperative care and patient education.

The surgical department maintains three operating suites and a procedures room to handle a comprehensive range of general, otolaryngology and other surgical procedures. Two full-time general surgeons are on the active staff at the hospital. Urology, ophthalmology, podiatry, gynecology, orthopedic and dental specialty surgical services are also provided.

Certified registered nurse anesthetists provide anesthesia to patients and specially certified registered nurses and scrub technicians assist in surgical care. The staff is on call 24 hours a day to assist with emergent procedures as needed.

Procedures commonly performed by general surgeons at McPherson Hospital include:

  • Endoscopy (upper endoscopy and colonoscopy)
  • Gall bladder removal surgery
  • Hernia repair
  • Appendectomy
  • Thyroid
  • Cancer operations (including malignancy involving colon, small intestine, breast, skin and other organs)
  • Endocrine surgery (benign and malignant disease involving the thyroid, parathyroid glands, adrenal glands and pancreas)
  • Trauma surgery
